Comedy and Dessert Night!

This Saturday and Sunday we are having Comedy nights from 7-9 pm as a fundraiser for our Ministry Trip to Calgary in July. ...also because comedy nights are fun.

Hey everyone, I know it's hard to believe but this is the last 'normal' youth weekend of the year!

Next week is the Comedy Night June 5-6 on both Saturday and Sunday nights. (Get your tickets, they are $10 and include coffee, punch and dessert)

Then we will wind up on June 11th with our Youth and Family picnic at Candycane Park.

But don't forget about this weekend! On Friday night, the Sr high's are going to Mayer's house (8210 Sherwood Drive) to just hang out and chill. Bring $2 to help with food costs.

On Saturday, we are having a Grande Finale Games night with Insidee/Outsidee and of course Gorgons! Bring a few bucks for snacks at Cafe Disco too!

Laser Quest

Both Jr and Sr groups are together and we will be meeting and getting picked up at Laser Quest which is at 10 Hesse Bay (just north of the Northgate Mall).

30 Hour Famine

This weekend we are doing the 30 Hour Famine!

We meet at the church at 7:00 pm on Friday but you need to stop eating after lunch on Friday.

We will be having an overnighter at the church and doing things all day Saturday including a food drive to help people right here in Regina too!

We will be winding up with the best soup and grilled cheese sandwiches you have ever had on Saturday for supper.

What to bring:
Your 30 Hour Famine Forms and money
Sleeping bag and pillow

We will not be eating at all but we will have fruit juice.
If there are any health reasons that prevent you from being able to participate please let Byron know and we will make a way to work things out so you can still be involved!

Remember, every dollar you raise is enough to feed a family for a day! I guarantee your family can't do that.

What is your goal?
$90 feeds a family for 3 months.

Westhill Serves

Hey everyone, this week we have two events both on Friday night involved with our Westhill Serves Weekend!

Starting at 6:00 our Sr. High are going to the YWCA at 1940 McIntyre Street to works with children!
It starts out with making pizzas with the kids and then you will be playing games or doing crafts and colouring and stuff with them. It ends at 9:00.

Also on Friday from 7-10pm we are having a community Gym night for students Grade 6-8 at Ruth M. Buck School.
High schoolers are welcome to come and help out as well cuz we need lots of enthusiastic leaders!

Bring a couple bucks for snacks as well.

So get out your best retro outfit (raid your parents closet, they probably have some old clothes that are money!)

We will start with a Paperclip and going around the community to trade for bigger or better things. What will you find?

Missions Encounter Youth Service

This Friday we are taking part in the Missions Encounter service and then heading downstairs for Pizza and some games and hang out time.

Ignite is leading the singing too!

Terry Smith will also be there and he has done ministry ranging from inner-city youth work, church planting, outreach programs for Muslims in the french countries and education and leadership development. I'm sure he will have lots of great stories!

It is all happening this Friday April 16, from 7-10pm at Westhill.

On Saturday Night the Jr High students are going to be at the church and we will be playing a game of Life Sized Foosball! Yes, you have all played foosball on the tables so we can warm up with that for a bit before we all get together and play it life sized!

Sno Trip to Mission Ridge!

Hey everyone, we are heading on our annual pilgrimage to Mission Ridge this coming Saturday!

We are meeting at the church at 8:00 and getting to Mission Ridge around 9:15.

We will be leaving Mission Ridge at 4:15 and arriving back at church at 5:30 in the afternoon.

Byron is still in the hospital with appendicitis but our great Youth Leaders will be taking care of things!

Meet at Westhill at 7:00, we will leave Westhill at about 7:15 and be getting to Mount Pleasant around 7:30. We will stay there sledding until about 9:30 when we will return to the church before 10:00.

If you live on the opposite side of the city you are welcome to join us at directly at Mount Pleasant from 7:30 to 9:30.

Friday Night 7-10, the Sr High students are going to be painting in the youth lounge. We are going to be touching up all the dings and scratches that are in the walls.

Bring clothes that can get paint on them!

Saturday Night 7-10, the Jr Students are going to be going around the community on a rake and run! We go around the community and rake up leaves and bag them for people who have lots of leaves in their yard.

Comedy Night This Saturday and Sunday!

Westhill Park Church's annual Comedy & Dessert night is being put on by the youth on June 6 & 7. It will be an evening of hilarious short skits and comedy by all of the youth going on the trip to SERVE 2009 in Swift Current, SK.

Tickets are $10 and all money will go directly towards the youth to help with the cost of the trip. That includes yummy cheesecake and coffee/tea/juice too!

Bring your friends - people of all ages will have a blast.

There will be childcare for the younger kids but the older ones would probably rather be a part of the night.

Bananarama Scavenger Hunt!!

Ok, this is almost our last event of the year so don't miss it! Next week is the comedy night and then we have our Youth and Family BBQ at Candycane Park to wrap things up on June 12. So come on out this weekend!

The Bananarama Scavenger Hunt is where we divide into teams each with a banana and then have a list of things around the city to go measure in lengths of a banana. Last time we measured the length of the Albert Street Bridge in bananas so who knows what will be in store this time!

Sr High is on Friday Night and Jr High is on Saturday Night.

We need drivers so ask your parents if they will be able to drive.

Westhill Scavenger Hunt 2.0!!

Ok, we almost got around to this last week but this Saturday May 2 we are going for round 2!

so...

You think you know Westhill!?! Well good luck because we are going to be doing a scavenger hunt around the neighborhood.

Come dressed to be outside and we will be getting into groups and competing to see who can come up with the most correct answers in our Westhill Scavenger Hunt. Who knows we may even move in to Fairways West.

I know you are intrigued, don't fight it. Both Jr and Sr High meet at Westhill Park Baptist Church Saturday from 7:00 to 10:00 pm.

We Raised over $4000 for World Vision at 30 Hour Famine!

We also went on a food drive and got a lot of food for the Regina Food Bank!

Congratulations and thanks to everyone who was involved.

There is no youth this week but we do have a Good Friday service at the church at 10:30 on Friday morning. Hope you can make it.

Also remember that there is only one service at church on Sunday and it is at 11:00.

30 Hour Famine!

We are going sledding to Mount Pleasant this SATURDAY with Both the Jr and Sr groups!

We will need drivers, so ask if your parents can drive!!

Meet at the church at 7:00pm or if you want to go straight to Mount Pleasant, we will be arriving at around 7:30.

We will wrap up at Mount Pleasant at 9:30 and be back at the church by 10:00 pm.

Bring your warm clothes and a sled or piece of cardboard or old hood from a car (*ask you parents before removing the hood of your car) or something to travel down the hill.

We will be having fun and hot chocolate so don't say I didn't warn you!

Well, the plan was to go sledding, but alas it looks like the windchill could be -40. ...so, we will be chillin' (pun intended) at the church playing games and stuff.

We are leaving in a few days and we need to get some things together yet. I sent a letter home but it didn't seem to make it to anyone's parents so I'm trying the internet.

**We are having a meeting Thursday morning July 3 from 9 am to noon with as many people as can make it.

Fundraising:

1. MinTrip Cost – The cost is $200 per student for the trip. Please make cheques payable to Westhill Park Baptist Church and bring them on Saturday July 5. Our puppet team has donated $50 per student in puppets so each student in Power and Praise Puppets only needs to pay $150.

2. Driveless Bottle Drive - if you're like us, you probably have a lot of cans and bottles sitting in your garage waiting to be recycled. Instead of having a formal bottle drive, we thought we'd do it the easy way. If you could each take your cans and bottles to Sarcan and then donate the proceeds to the trip, it would help us out a lot. If you don't have any, then perhaps your friends or neighbours have some sitting around that they'd like to rid themselves of. Whatever you’re willing to done will be appreciated.

Trip Logistics:

Bring a bag lunch for Saturday. We will stop to eat on our way to Calgary.

PACKING: Each person may bring 1 medium (not large) suitcase, 1 carry-on bag (medium backpack) and 1 bag for your pillow, sleeping bag and air mattress.

BEDDING: Since we’re going to be tight on space on the way there and back, you can pack single air mattresses only. Please no double or larger air mattresses or foamies (they just take up too much room packing and in the tent). If you don’t have an air mattress, you might want to think about getting one – but it’s up to you. We’ll try to arrange for a few people to bring air pumps so we don’t have to pack 20 of them.

Think about how much you want the students to take for spending money. We will be going shopping a couple times while we’re there and it’s always nice to have some extra money for snacks along the way. We’ll cover all the necessities and any planned entertainment.

Does anyone have a large tent or two???? We are in need of some tents for accommodations. The bigger the better since we’ll have all of our luggage in them too. Please let Byron know if you have one that we could borrow.

Security: We are tenting at a campground in High River. Wendell and Jean will be staying in a cabin trailer so we will be able to lock valuables in there or keep things in the vans that we will also keep locked. We cannot guarantee the security of you valuables but we will do our best to provide secure options (my wallet will be there too)!

We are having our Christmas Parties for Jr. and Sr. High this weekend!

Instead of doing a gift swap, please bring $5 of "Stocking Stuffers" because we are putting together gifts for Operation Christmas Stocking. This is a program put on by Souls Harbour Rescue Mission to provide needy men, women and children with a pair of new socks and some useful items.

Good ideas of Stocking Stuffers are:
-Toothbrush and Toothpaste
-Hotel Sized Toiletries
-Washcloth, tissues, comb, lip balm
-Gum/Small Candies
-Small Sewing kit
-Small Address Book, pen and pad
-Postage Stamps, Bus Tickets
-Small Cross
-Gift certificates for fast-food restaurants

Remember, these are packed into socks, so bring small items. (ie, not a big box of kleenex)

Sr. High is doing a progressive supper. Meet at the church Friday at 7, bring $2.

Jr. High is having a pot-luck at the church on Saturday from 7-10. Last name A-M bring an appetizer, Last name N-Z bring a dessert.

Make sure you dress up for this formal occasion!

...and don't forget coming Dec 14. The Super Heroes Feast at Rosewood Alliance from 6-9 pm, Cost $10. It includes food, games a Ninja Weapons show and more!

Ginger Madness!?!

What happens when you mix Ginger Bread Houses with Gorgons? ...I'm not sure I want to know but we will find out this weekend!

Sr. High is Friday Night and we are having a dash of Ginger Bread, with a hearty axe full of Guitar Hero.

Jr. High is Saturday Night and we are building Ginger Bread Houses before we get to Gorgons!

Bring money for the canteen, both events are 7-10 pm.

Project Serve ...and Souper Sunday Rider Edition!

Souper Sunday is this Sunday and we are doing a very special Rider Pride Edition, so wear your Rider gear, or dress in green to represent!

On Souper Sunday's we have soup, rolls, dessert, coffee and juice and we invite everyone from church to stay for lunch! The youth put things together and people can give a donation for their lunch that will go to help both our ministry trip next summer to Calgary and to further development in the youth lounge!

We are project Serving it up again!

This week for youth The Jr High group is meeting FRIDAY at Westhill from 5:30 to 9:00! Yes that is very different than usual. We will need drivers, so if parents can drive that would be great! We are going to help with the children's drop in time at North Central Family Centre. Bring a couple dollars to get snacks when we head back to the church.

For Sr Highs we are helping with the church decorating on Saturday from 10:00 to 3 or 4 in the afternoon. If you can only show up for a part of the time that is fine. We are going to do a McDonald's run for lunch so bring some money for that.

Remember When Swimming was FUN!!

We're bringing it back this Friday! Both Jr. and Sr. High meet at the church Friday at 7:00 the cost is $5.

Girls, wear one piece or tankini swimsuits.
Guys, NO SPEEDOS!!

We'll need extra drivers so ask if your parents can help drive. We'll be back at the church for pickup at 10:00.

...and then on Sunday IGNITE is leading worship for the morning services! Make sure you come out to support the team! It'll be like Sunday Morning with a twist!

Sr Retreat - Jr Girls & Guys Nite

The Sr Retreat is this weekend! We are going out to KBK, we meet at Westhill Friday at 6:00 and get back to the church Saturday at 10:00.

Make sure that you let Byron know if you are coming by Wednesday and let him know if your parents can drive on Friday or Saturday.

Jr. High is having Girls and Guys Nite out this Saturday from 7-10pm!

Girls are going to Murdoch's 161 Krivel Crescent.

Guys are going to Parkers's 6723 Maple Ridge Drive.

We are meeting at the church Friday at 6:00 and will be back Saturday night at 10:00. The cost is $25. Let Byron know by Wednesday if you are planning to come.

Sr. High are having Guys/Girls Nite Out! The Guys Nite is at Josephson's 6174 Wellband Drive and the Girls Nite is at Mayers 8210 Sherwood Drive. Girls bring your swim suits for the hot tub!

Rake 'n' Run

This Friday we are all meeting at Westhill and then going out to do Project Serve.

The Jr. High Group is going to the North Central Family Centre (2931 5th Ave.) to hang out with the kids and show God's Love!

The Sr. High Group is going to Healing Hearts Ministry (766 Angus St.) to help them with clean-up and getting things organized since they have just moved into a new building!
